Oh Snap! Out & About on the Grid (Take Deux)

JellyBean: Oh gosh! The response to Oh Snap! Has been insane. People I don't know have been dropping pics on us inworld & I have to say I loveeeeee it! Because we have so many pics & are practically Oh Snap! backlogged, I've asked the other MGs to jump on the series.

Twiggy
JellyBean:
Yup that's me in the background. When I saw her I thought "HOLY SHIT! Calista Flockhart hits SL and anorexia will be the new trend." Do you think she had to seriously mod her prim skirt? Her over thinness wouldn't have been so prominent had her tats not reminded me of veins against fragile bone & her AO making her look extremely twiggy! Quick someone get her a cheeseburger, large fries & extra large milkshake!

Laylah:
I'm so confused - is that a human or a tree? Maybe a dryad - in which case, perhaps we should plant it. The tattoo even looks like bark! Someone give this girl a cheeseburger, STAT! I hope the emaciated crack-whore look doesn't become en-vogue because it's completely disgusting and totally at-odds with my banana split lovin ass. I'm going to go ahead and invoke Rule 34 on this - Hippies, start fappin.

Orchid:
what's running down her leg? chawklit rain? ROFLLL I'm trying to decide what look she's trying to pull off. I think I'll call it the "Billy Ray meets Crocodile Hunter on the set of Pimps Up Hoes Down" cuz wtf is with the hooker boots? She almost looks like one of the Olsen twins .. when they were 8. Seriously though you could feed her the fries, shake and burger ... but it still won't help the fact that her arms are penetrating her breasts. If she's THAT thin and the pose is bunk ... that's just a BAD pose. Do people not sit on a pose stand to demo this stuff?

Small French Penor
Jell
yBean: Thank the Lindens for farking walls! Two words: PENIS PUMP!

Laylah:
*In a horrible, affected french accent* "Uhh huh huh huh, Monsieur, I see your Oui Oui!" Maybe I am just accustomed to giant willies in SL (See Biggun's Flesh Rocket!!) but even for a '16 year old French boy' this seems .. small. Perhaps it's a French thing. Someone get out the siren, this is grade a child porn... Except it's not really a child. This is poor Jelly's neighbor. Someone turn this guy in - disgusting pervert. I see his balls .. erm, poseballs and I'm pretty sure they don't make him clean his room. Start the witch hunt here, guys. *hork*

Orchid:
Once again - a noob who doesn't thave the money for a skin but has had enough foreski ... foresight to purchase a penis. Now THAT is priority! He needs to hit a butterfly machine ... got a little man boob goin on, and even though I love a good preforming drag queen as much as the next easily amused person .. those gloves gotta go. Looks like he got a bit too worked up .. either that or his choker is too tight. Or is he embarrassed? What's that red shit on his face?! I think its proportionate .. but its just ugly. At least his nuts don't look like a brain though! You seen those? The prim 'nads that look like they came right out of a Jhonen Vasquez drawing?

Holy Hulk Hogan
JellyBean:
I so wish I coulda been there to witness this in person. Neck up she's as lovely as a flower, neck down I fear for my slife. What the fuck are they putting in the water at SLeek?

Laylah:
Oh yeah, Hulkamania! Off subject, wanna know something sad? My rl mom thinks the Hulk is sexy. LOL Anyway - Wow. This girl must work out a lot. And they call making tiny prims 'prim torture' - I wonder what those poor prims did to deserve this. Even steroid lady can not resist the lure of the bling! How do you even wear clothes over this? I see she's not wearing any panties - I shudder to think of where they've gone. I wonder if this girl knows what kind of hairy-palmed crowd she's kink-catering too? You know, I think I am a little jealous. I needs me a set of these giant muscles to pimp out. MG's - Beefed up! Hilarious! Seriously - where do you buy these? LOL

Orchid:
Okay ... so I have to figure out if this is a woman or a mullet wearing man? God all those prims! Though its a work of art and I can totally appreciate the craftsmanship of it - Ew. And she isn't even wearing any bottoms! But I can't tell if there's a tuck ... or if its a cooter. But no matter what .. they have their bling and apparently that's all that matters. "I might be ugly as fuck and be accused of being a man .. and I might not be able to fit through a doorway - but god damn it my toes bling!"Toe bling! ftw

JoyStick Hair
Laylah: Joystick Hair: Wow, you know I'm the kind of girl who says "Let go of my hair I know what I'm doing" but this girl's hair just screams "Grab on and twist this bitch like you're at game point on pong!" Seriously, I guess that might be comforting though. Mmm, Atari - You never forget your first! Geeks around the grid will be looking for the quarter slot on this bitch. And I don't even want to know what is on her thigh but I think her coolant is leaking.

Orchid:
See that hair only works on like ... someone who's RPing some kind of midevial type character or a shao-lin monk LOL! OMFG she has that shiny layer thing on .. that's another rant that's on my back burner. So she has on this taxi cab yellow 'kini .... but ugly ass black Budweiser socks? That's horrible product placement! and what's running down her thigh? that a bruise from the stripper pole?

Oh Snap! Out & About on the Grid

JellyBean: Yah, shup! We know it's been awhile since we've done an Oh Snap! It's Laylah's fault. The bitch that she is pretends to always be busy when we really know she's whoring herself out. You may have to click to enlarge the images, don't hurt yourself.
Laylah: Lies - all lies! I'm a married woman now. I spend my time baking cookies in only an apron and stilettos. It's a hard knock life.

The Bunneh
Laylah: Oh god, the bunny. Ok, I know.. I did tell you to be something besides a cat.. and I did mention bunnies. It's nice to see you listen but lets not take it to extremes. You might as well go full furry. The truth is - I hate bunnies. I do. I will speed up if I see one in the road...but I tell people not to be fucking cats so I can't really sneeze at bunnies. I mean - she looks so stupid. Why, god why, would you cover you hands and feet in those things when there are so many wonderful shoes out there.. and the hands just creep me out.

JellyBean: She's one strong bunneh to hold wee men on one shoulder. I'm not sure but she leaves me confused. Furry or not furry? Help me out here - throw the bean a bone. Oi! Speaking of bonin', would being with her be considered bestiality? *shakes head* I am confused by what I do not understand.

The Stretch
Laylah: The plastic man tote reminds me of Stretch Armstrong. Remember him? Weird... or maybe Gumby. I wonder if this guy can glide like Gumby does. How cool would that be? ... Big, bald and scary as all get-out. At least he's not cookie-cutter like everyone else. Even toothpick legs loves the bling. it's a disease, I swear.

JellyBean: I bet he's a great contortionist. I'm not sure I could honestly get past the bling & small head to find out. However I seriously wanna ask for a piggy back ride just so I can touch the clouds.

Mr. Winky
Laylah: Mr. WINKY! Not too bad looking.. except for the third leg. What's they they say "the barn door's open?" Looks like the horse got out. And again - men not lining up their hair. I mean it's a click and a drag, it's not that hard. No one has to guess what he's doing when he should be fixing his hair.

JellyBean: Now we don't know for sure, but he could have it caught in his zipper. :o The only thing is, he doesn't appear to be in pain, so I'm going to guess he could be into that sort of thing. New meaning to "freeballin". In any case, you don't have to woo his socks off to see what his package looks like... BA BAM! It's just there.

Emo Vamp
Laylah: "I Vant To Suck Your Blood!" Her giant gray boobs scare me - and that's saying something coming from "Bewbs" Mistral. That's one hooker I would be scared to pick up - you could lose more than your wallet and get the ABCs of STDs to boot. It's obvious to me that she is a hooker - look at those boots! I find that people in SL go way super far with the Goth thing. I was goth in high school, thank goodness I grew out of it. Even then I had -some- style. I think we're going to have to do a post on Goth done fashionably well. Yes, yes .. Your life is a dark pit of darkness. We get it - you're so goth you wear velvet tampons, sure. Might as well wash your hair, put on some Dashboard Confessional and cut yourself (so you can feel) because Goth is SO out and Emo is the new Goth.

JellyBean: Everything Laylah said. Lmao!

Oh Snap! Don't People Ever Learn?

Yus! A Mean Girl favorite is back! Despite various examples of what NOT to do with your Avatar in previous Oh Snaps! and other blogs such as SL Fashion Police, folks are still taking individuality to a level that is not what we call... tasteful.

Kaedy and I have a few opinions on these new additions to the Oh Snap! Hall of Shame... so sit up and listen so you know not to make the same mistakes.

The Skank

Guen: Yeah... I tend to find many of my photos at Sanctuary Rock, and this... thing is no exception. Not only does she have BOTH prim hair and system hair, but her body is sorely out of proportion. This is supposed to be sexy? For who? Big Bird? Her Group Tag saying 'Slut for Free' certainly didn't get her any offers from what I saw.

Kaedy: Even Skeletor has more meat on his bones than this... this... OMG what the F is it?

Business Suit Larry

Guen: Okay I know that new players have to get used to the sliders, but this guy decided to take a few of them a bit too far. He looks like Bill Clinton's long lost cousin... who never left Arkansas.

Kaedy: O.O
Holy Smokes!
1. Eyes to big
2. Suit to small. Showing your abs is a great thing but not if you're wearing a suit for crying out loud.
3. Shoes would be nice.
4. Throw in some socks too. They're free
5. And the hair... Hun too much dippidy doo is a bad thing.

The Tattooed Lady

Kaedy: OK... how do you even put something this horrific together, let alone say to yourself.. "oh yeah.. this is hot.. this works". Honey if you were going for the Fashion Don't of the year awards... well here ya go!

Guen: I -think- that's an outfit, but it looked to me like a giant tattoo covering her naughty bits. Shame on the designer for creating it, but shame on this gal for buying it and wearing it in public. O.O Oh and of course the blingy heels just add that extra zest of cheese, don't they?

Pinky Bling

Guen: Yeah I -think- she was going for 'cute but badass' with this look, but once you're blinded with the bling... it's no longer cute nor badass.

Kaedy: Ok.. exactly what direction is she going with this outfit? Rocker/Punk/Teeniebopper/Bratzdoll/Blingtard? ???

Twiggy II

Guen: Not only does this girl need about 10 Baconators, she needs to realize that this isn't Teen Second Life®. Anorexia is just as horrible a disease in SL® as it is in RL, apparently.

Kaedy: Turn her sideways, make her stick out her tongue and voila! A Zipper!

Oh Snap! "Barbie takes a roll in the dirt: Filthy done wrong"

Laylah: Ripped jeans are the new black - everyone wants to be 'Filthy" these days. As filthy chicks (wuwu!) Jelleh and I can tell you, this is so NOT the way to do it. I can not stress this enough - People, stop..and take the time to LOOK at your AV. Just because the clothes look good on the model in the picture do not mean they will fit your body type.

JellyBean: Haha! This is an ass that can take down the grid. I'm sorry Rosie, I take back everything I have said about your big butt. Please people do you know nothing about slider overdose? Time for Kayne's Slider Work Out Plan. When we received this pic the first thing I thought was "what is the point of even putting any pants on?" Lala may disagree with me but shredded jeans such as this were so two months ago. Exactly what is the belt for? To keep the jeans strapped up? Seems counter productive to me as she doesn't really have much left to her jeans to need a belt. I'm sorry but it's just crazy stupid to continue when clearly this pic doesn't say a thousand words, it's screams them.

Laylah: These jeans would look hawt on me - For real. The chick wearing them, however, just looks like her giant ass got into a losing battle with a sandpaper wielding dry-humper all hyped up on caffeine and retard-strong. Then again, I look hawt in anything as I've been blessed with good sliders! I'm wondering how she stands upright, what with the waifness of her waist. Someone give this poor panhandler a cheeseburger. Hourglass is a beautiful shape .. when it's done right.

Laylah: The corset top completely ruins any ideas this outfit may have had about being hardcore. Hello, I can see your nipples. I wonder if this is intentional or if she just didn't look at what she put on. At least her tit sliders didn't catch whatever disease her ass slider has. The Mean Girls would like to remind you that being proportionate, even in SL, is important... Otherwise you end up like this girl; with an ass that insists on eating your jeans pixel by pixel.

JellyBean: This poor girl has an SL rez date of January. Okay for those of you who can't count, that means she's been in game for approximately 4 months. She cannot be considered a nooblet anymore, honestly. I would have to say she knows how to cam around to the front of herself to know that something ain't workin here. It could be her skin (I'm guessing it's Naughty skin) or mayhapsibly the top. Either way, she shouldn't have bothered getting dressed today, the pants alone said that way before the top ever did. Yes, this is the upper half to that enormous ass above.

Oh Snap! How to Spot A Slut

Spotting a slut tip #1
Laylah: if you can fuck her without removing or re-arranging any clothing then she's probably a slut. Case in point - the slut-skirt. I don't see any panties.. and at that length I should be able to. She might as well be wearing kneepads for all the wear-and-tear she'll be getting.
JellyBean: Easy access is always perfect for a quickie in an alleyway, backseat, parking lot, trash dumpster, etc. etc.

Spotting a slut tip #2
Laylah: Ha - the kneepads. See, I told you. Slut. If the boots go over her knees, it's not a fashion statement.. it's to hide the scars from past rug burn and prevent future injuries.
JellyBean: Safety first! Especially in this lifestyle, one can't let them know she's not as sweet & innocent as she's trying to make herself out to be. This is where dark places come in play if she's asked to remove her boots.
Laylah: Notice the heavy hardware on these boots - That's to prevent kneepad slippage. Yeah, this one is strapped in and ready to go.

Spotting a slut tip #3
Laylah: See these lips? 9 times out of 10 sluts will have the textbook 'face you want to fuck.' Those full lips are bred in from slut generation to slut generation, humans adapt to their surroundings. Blow job lips are a necessity in the slut lifestyle. Who wants to get head from a bitch that's all teeth? These bee stung pillows of flesh are easily pulled in and over the teeth to keep your blow jobs all tongue-and-sucking.

Spotting a slut tip #4
Laylah: The Tramp Stamp (tm)! is the lower back tattoo. Might as well be a bullseye. If you're lucky it'll tell you just how easy she is. Words like "Slut" "Whore" or "Free" are good ones. Don't be put-off if the tattoo says something like "Daddy" or "Innocent" though, the Tramp Stamp (tm) has and will always mean she's a slut, regardless of what it says.
JellyBean: If it's in a foreign language, just assume it says "Cum here". You'll probably be right.

Laylah: It's really too bad that SL doesn't give you diseases. Someone should make a free copy/trans skin with herpes around those BJ lips... Or crack pipe scars. Then we could give them out to the whores.Or draw meat curtains hanging down their legs. Prim meat curtain attachments for SL porn stars! You know those bitches aren't tight. Just jumping from pose ball to pose ball with every Tom, (Dick), and Harry.

Oh Snap! How to Spot a Female Impersonator

Laylah: I just don't know where to start with this one. I'll say that, overall you can tell a crossAVer by their body type. Men see women in a series of features as they differ from their own. Hair, tits, and hips.
JellyBean: Serious mental issues guys. Is it cause your mommy didn't hug you as much as you wanted?
Laylah: So, the easiest way to spot one is, obviously, to note these things. In the first picture you see the massive hips and the small waist. This is very common, as is the huge (and badly done) tattoo .. or are those panties? Either way, it's an overly fem icon, as if to say "Look at me, I am a pretty girl. I like butterflies."
JellyBean: Really I think the crossAVers just want to feel themselves up or look at themselves naked. I don't think in most cases it's to attract the opposite AV sex. If it is, ewww! you sickos.
Laylah: Real women do not feel the need to announce their gender in such garish ways. This person might as well be wearing a sign around their neck reading, "Hi, my name is Tom McFatass and I live in my mother's basement."

Laylah: As we travel up the body you will see just how small that waist is compared to the giant missiles attached to this person's chest. Now, far be it for me to tell you big boobs are bad, Hell, I'm known as 'Bewbs'... But the fact remains, these boobs are massively over sized and the curves aren't really curves at all; more like cliffs.
JellyBean: Cliffs? Are you kidding me? These are hot air balloons or air bags. Very very useful in case of a face plant into a sidewalk. They could possibly save his/her life.

Laylah: Lastly, we have the face. Usually square-jawed, as men don't pay too much attention to this. I wish it were simple enough as looking for an Adam's apple! Instead, we get the hair. Sometimes overly fem, usually just badly done. CrossAVers seem to be texture-blind when it comes to hair - at least this one is. Lets not forget the fact that the hair does not suit the face... and is badly aligned.
JellyBean: Do men ever line their hair up right? Nah, not really. I think it's more buy & wear - hope for the best for most. But yes, this very bad hair for a toothpick of an av with air bags & wide hips.

Oh Snap! The Shoe Expo Edition

Okay most of you by now (ESPECIALLY if you're female) have heard that there's this little thing called the SL Shoe Expo going on right now. If you haven't been there... GO!!!!! If you've already been or want to go later, stick around and read.

The event was put together by Phoenix Chapman (whom we actually ran into while we were there) and it's for an extremely good cause. It's also a great chance for bigger brands and smaller brands alike to interact and get noticed by patrons. I know we ran into a bunch that we'd never heard of so it was great to see all the incredible talent.

On the other hand, we also saw some things that should probably have been left in the respective designer's inventories. If I put all of them into this post it would take up 3 pages, so Kaedy and I managed to narrow it down to the weirdest of the weird.

The Whole Frikkin Store?

Guen: We get it, you're proud of your work. But at an Expo you only put up a small selection of your stuff for us to see. If folks like the selection you show off there, they'll be more curious to browse your things at your main store. No point in clicking on the landmark tack in the middle 'cause all the product is RIGHT HERE.

Rainbow Garden Weasel

Kaedy: "Guen! C’mere! You have got to see these! LMAO!" Footwear Fashion meets the Garden Weasel. All I can say is I have got to get me a pair of these! These will make my job of planting my spring bulbs 1000% easier.

Stolen from Grandma's Closet

Kaedy: Over the hills and through the woods, to grandmother's house we go. Yes that’s right... the latest in fashion footwear! Quilts on your feet! For those of you interested in recycling, here is a great at home craft project for you. Just cover those old worn out stilettos with your grammies old quilt, throw on some plastic jewels and you're ready to go. Go to what? I haven’t got a friggin clue. All I do know is that I wouldn't be caught dead there, and since I’m already dead...

Um... Where's the Shoes?

Guen: Okay... the booth itself is great showing off beautiful landscaping (most of it by Botanical) but... where's the product??? You may have to squint and hold your tongue just right to look, but there -is- actually 2 sets of boots in there. I'd suggest next time not using your entire prim limit on presentation.

New Level of Blingtard

Kaedy: As if bling wasn't bad enough, what would have been a really nice pair of sculpty pumps has been ruined by the addition of a "sparking particle" emitter! Not Sparkle.. Sparking! OMG every bimbo in SL is going to be wearing these. We’re going to need a new gesture...

Guen: The photo doesn't do this pair justice. You just have to see them for yourself. Yes they really do sparkle... a lot. Bling is annoying. Particles are annoying. Put the two together on a pearlesque pump and you got... SUPER ANNOYING.

Kitteh Wedges

Guen: Okay I understand these were made solely to give proceeds to the ASPCA charity, but I have the suspicion that if these weren't for charity they'd never be purchased. I'm sorry but this is a whole new level of FUGLY. Making them Transfer Only is ironic, since after buying them you'll be trying like hell to give them away.

Kaedy: And what better way to support the ASPCA than to stuff your foot up some poor unsuspecting cat's ass. Poor kitty.

I will say that these examples are only a small portion of the shoes you'll find at the Expo. Many more designers have brought incredible footwear to this event that's worthy of being purchased. I know Kaedy, Rosie B and I are much lighter on Lindens after going to this thing (and we're all probably going back for a second trip) so please do check it out!

So we meet again, Grasshoppa!

Feels weird being back here on MGG2SL after almost a 6 month hiatus... but nevertheless I'm back betches - well, for the final week.

When Rosie & I gave birth to this dirty little bastard we had high hopes, expectations, ideas and dreams. Awww that *almost* sounds sugar coated. Hah! Little did we know that we'd have the cult-like following that we did in a year's time.

I can still remmy the first time I walked into a store, shopped and was almost instantly IM'd by the creator, "Don't be Mean Girling my shit!" Even now that tickles me. I honestly don't think I've ever come off as threatening, okay, mayhaps that ONE time. Geez!

In this post I was going to talk about what a bitch Rosie is or how big of a whore Laylah is, or even how Kitty is all about self-twat promotion... but decided why? Ya'll know this already, right?

I stopped writing for MGG2SL back in February sometime, I think. Mostly because my SL sweetheart & I became a RL couple (it's time consuming) and I pretty much thought I'd covered everything that needed to be said - But in case ya'll missed it, let me recap:
Whew! If you had done your homework, those wouldn't be new to you. Though it's always good to take a refresher course anyways. That's just my contribution. Orchid took on caLLie cLine with Advertising Diarrhea among other posts. Laylah did her whoring while posting Oh Snaps & other worthwhile reads. Rosie kept us all together & took on the role of therapist with Dear Rosie's. There has been many mean girls that have graced this blog over the past year and each bringing their own bit of zest. I am happy to have had the opportunity to call them my friends, even though really they are quite the bitches.

Though we are saying good-bye to MGG2SL this week - I'm glad to say I was a part of it and I hope to see new blogs that aren't afraid to be honest, don't always sugar-coat and say what everyone is thinkin anyways arise from our ashes. Cheers!

Psych!!

Ha you thought we were gone, huh? Well, unfortunately for some who would wish "just end it. Don't let it drag on for weeks", it is... being dragged on.

Here's the thing. You know how time is condensed in SL?? Well here at MGs we've celebrated a long history of procrastination and questionable content. There were rules? 'kay.

I think it's unfortunate, but I blame myself for putting an end date on it. I'm still giving folks a chance to say their piece/peace, wtfever. And that includes myself. Hope you can all cope with that.

And as for professionalism, or communication, how's about an IM in response? Hmmm? One little one maybe? Apparently that's asking too much. And as for time? Two weeks was sufficient enough to come up with an Oh Snap for the shoe expo... how could coming up with a goodbye take all that much longer?

Diversity, Part II

I also have had some thought about Diversity in SL®, and since they're celebrating said subject this week for the 5th birthday dealio, I will slide in another few words on the matter.

This train of thought initially started many weeks before the events going on now. I came across a post from Chestnut Rau wondering why do many think that the only way to be recognized and accepted is to be a human avatar?

I know there's many many other Avatar types out there (robots, demons, furries, elves, transgenders, etc) because in truth the sky -is- the limit in this virtual world. I am not attempting to exclude any other avatars by any means. If we are meant to truly celebrate how diverse we are in both RL and SL®, then we have to recognize the creativity of everyone (yus even the Blingtards and 'Oh Snap!' candidates).

Still, I decided to ask 5 folks with their own unique outlook on avatars to see what they think:

Beatrix Noel: A purple fairy with a style that's as diverse as SL® itself
Rosie B: One of our favorite plus-sized ladies
Kaedy: A vampire who's more than just goth clothing and curves
Mirari Cheney: A Neko who will scratch ya as soon as smootch ya
Pangtera Nakamura: The ultimate anti-human

I first asked each of them their true influences for creating a unique Avatar:

Mirari: Mir as she is was a off shoot from a lyv tyler avi. I made her tall which I'm not lol better endowed than i am. So she is ... a fantasy? but then isnt that what SL is supposed to be?

Rosie B: When I logged in for the very first time to meet up with my best friend, I wasn't aware that there were standards. So, when I got to the spot on orientation island and they told me to customize it, I just ... went with whatever I felt like doing. Which was making her on the short and round side. It wasn't until I got TP'd into a busy club and people started commenting about my shape that I realized I had done something out of the ordinary.

Pangtera: My natural curiosity in physically being something that I couldn't in real life. Everywhere i go i see humans, and everyone expects others to be human, and it makes the SL® experience limiting in my opinion. It seems many are afraid to try new things.

So it comes down to seeing beyond the limits of a normal 'human' (and yus -I- think Liv Tyler is beyond human, k?) However... just because you are a cat, or dragon, or alien... does that mean you're not sexy? Who decides what is sexy and what isn't? Vogue? Cosmo? Nah. What about Second Life® fashion blogs like Second Style Fashionista or Linden Lifestyles? Does it really matter?

Mirari: sadly... I do think people put too much into looks here as in rl. People take themselves too seriously here sometimes.

Kaedy: Well some [vampire Av's] are definitely over the top about it.

Pangtera: I personally never bought avatars to feel sexy, but if others think it's sexy or not sexy, it's fine. A lot of people doll themselves up for others, but I dress up for me and only me.

Beatrix: I have to be honest and say I don't see myself as being that unusual. Obviously I am but I'm just me, I have the same shape from when I was wearing regular skin.

With all that being said, then sexy is merely a state of mind... and in the end we're all people behind the screens portraying our own personification of ourselves through our vast imaginations.

Finally, is there any advice to offer for those who wish to step outside the box?

Beatrix: Go for it! or if you are worried try something out. There are plenty of low cost options plus this is SL® and nothing is permanent. When I first started wearing purple skin people asked me why, and I said, "It makes me happy!" and my friend were cool with that.

Kaedy: I guess go with whatever makes you comfortable. After all is a game and the sky is the limit, so be whatever you want to be. But also remember that there are real people behind these avatars. Some people can be so rude just because they can hide behind their keyboards. It ruins it for everyone.

Rosie B: One good thing about SL® is, it's not permanent. But if you're going to pick a nonstandard avatar, and you think you want to be in one nonstandard avie style, own it. Really love it. Make it a part of you, whether it's an avenue for personal growth, or just a hell of a lot of fun, or because you like how you look, have some reason to really make it your own. That'll make your experience as rewarding as it can be. In a world where you can be anything you want to be, there's no reason why you should be something you aren't totally in love with. SL is what you make of it, whether you're "standard," "nonstandard," classic, unique. Just adore yourself.

And so... enjoy diversity whether you're a purple lover, zombie, or a shining ball of light, there's bound to be other folks out there who will accept you for who you really are...

Adios, Bitches

I can't remember when I began reading the Mean Girls Guide to Second Life, but I distinctly recall the very first moment of spew they caused me, which happened over coffee as I read this particular episode of Oh Snap:

It is a classic in the Mean Girls tradition of poking a red hot spoon at those who let their asses hang out, so to speak. It's the kind of writing that made this blog what it was at its peak: the best that bitchiness has to offer. It's a painful truth telling with an enormous dose of snark. It's the kind of meanness you can let yourself indulge in because it's got a purpose - it's pointing out, from one point of view - what kind of stupidity will get the shit teased out of you.

Second Life is full of assholes. I should know. Without the Mean Girls, a lot of us would have felt fairly adrift in a sea of clueless social clods. While in the virtual world there's a lot of room for interpretation of what's cool, what's acceptable, what's forgivable and what's punishable by public humiliation, there are definite lines to be drawn. The cast of Mean Girls here did us all a public service by drawing them in each post. We could cross the lines or not as we saw fit.

I was honored to be recruited to the Mean Girls, and I have to say, sorry for not being a more productive contributor. I point to this Valentine's Day post as probably my favorite of my Mean Girls career.
But not all that long after, I found myself unable to keep up with any blogging or any kind of Second Life at all. It's just now, as the girls are closing up shop, I find myself back in pixel town but sadly without my trusty Second Life guide to etiquette.

Truth is, I am still not sure why they decided to call it quits. Now that they're killing the thing, the beefcakes are beefier than ever. But I suppose that sometimes you've got to kill your darlings before they become boring old hags. While I think MGG2SL was far from that point, it's still better to go while you're peaking.

So that said, good luck girls. Thanks for the entertainment and enlightenment! I'm sure that Second Life is going to be worse off without your guidance.

A Week in the SLife...

Inspiration comes in all forms. For me, part of this inspiration came from Orchid's previous post about people's reactions to her purple skin. The rest came through handful other people I've met in Second Life whom have decided to break through the usual Barbie Girl mold and wear a more "Real" shape.

So it got me thinking... what would it be like to walk around as a Plus Sized Avatar for a week? I created a shape, used the skin that looked the best with it, and started my week long trek through the virtual world we've all grown to love (and hate).

To start, I went with a couple of friends to 1 club I'd never been to before. The former was a strip club with the usual big boob lovelies shaking their oil lathered bodies and gliding up and down slick dance poles. The hostess didn't even acknowledge I had walked in, and the other patrons (mostly other female AVIs) left me alone. I left after about 15 minutes of watching these hourglass shapes gyrating around me.

The next day I had 2 DJ sets back-to-back. Beforehand I decided to do a little shopping at a couple of stores known for more sexy women's clothing: DE Designs and Nymphetamine. I admire both DoC and Paeoti's work VERY much. I've even met Paeoti before and expressed my admiration. They do designs that many other folks can only dream of. These designs are not for full-figured gals, though. ;-)

After some purchases, I went home to try on some designs. Now, if you think prim skirts are annoying on regular sized Avatars, try spending 35 minutes just to get one to look decent on a full-figured one. You can't wear Skirt layers at ALL, BTW. Your butt and hips stick out way too much. Shoes? Well since almost all women's shoes are a Size "0", you can't even choose a more realistic foot size. I also couldn't wear most of my necklaces and bracelets without seriously altering them. Hair also had to be fixed since my head was bigger, and many longer styles I have didn't look right hanging on my shoulders.

Many designers (and Linden Labs) by nature tend to make their outfits according to the size 2 to 8 gal. Is this wrong? No. It just makes things tougher if you want to look different.

To further test how this shape would effect my overall SL experience, I wore the shape to some of my DJ gigs and to sets by other DJs at the same places. Overall responses by my closer friends went something like this:

EP: looks real lol
EP: I think you are cuter

mC: lol you still look pretty hot tho :P

SD: I love ya no matter what *hugs*

Guen: It's called 'Do folks treat Guen different if she's fat'
LF: i would hope not
LF: same person

BUT, some others were a bit more blunt with their responses...

PK: guen...you uh...getting a start on the holidays?

PT: so Guen...is that the extreme anti-makeover?
PT: guess she's just retaining water

SB: come hither fatty

The biggest question was if this shape was going to effect my sets. Folks are there to HEAR the DJ instead of look, right? Surprisingly, my tips actually stayed about the same at Sanctuary Rock though I didn't receive nearly as many requests from folks. My tips at Valhalla's went down due the drop in the population of clubgoers.

I didn't think much about the reactions until on Friday I decided to show up in my normal shape to Sanctuary Rock. Tips went up, requests went up, and I even had 3 patrons comment in IMs to me that they loved how sexy my Avatar looked. I know they were meant as compliments, but after nearly a week of wandering around with the full-figured look I just couldn't get myself to appreciate them.

What this all boils down to, folks, that while we are given the option to create anything we wish in Second Life including how our Avatar looks... there is still a 'norm' that many folks expect. This norm generally involves shapes, sizes, and colors that many see in today's pop culture. When someone steps 'outside the box', often the first reactions from other folks are not the prettiest.

This does not mean you should go out and create the weirdest damn Avatar you can either. One must find a balance between being unique and being realistic. Mean Girls 'Oh Snap!' posts exist because someone took 'unique' to a whole new and frightening level. Even when I made my full-figured shape, I didn't move all my sliders to 100 just to make a point.

The main thing to remember is that in RL we can't just click 'Appearance' and tweak a few slider measurements. In fact I am keeping the shape to remind myself of that very fact. Besides why would everyone want to look and act like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt? That would become an extremely bland world (SL or RL), wouldn't you say?

BTW, if you want to read more about a gal who's full-figured in both SL and RL, check out the Whole Lotta Rosie blog. Not to be confused with our Rosie, this beautiful lady also has a lot of spunk. ;-)

Neato Mulligans: Dance Edition

Once upon a time in a vast world called The Asset Server there were ways to make avatars move. These limited, though still entertaining animations were used widely by SL residents. Noobs and Oldbies alike all danced in similar fashion without a care in the world. We even jump-kicked around like a Redneck Lord of the Dance. No one could escape the call of rating parties while dancing, chatting, and passing out random things to one another.

Times were simpler then. Prim hair was attached to system hair bases, folks had figured out how to build shoes with prims instead of using the previous method of putting a texture on a template - and the first prim skirt was not yet 'invented'. Yes, those were the days.

The days when 'dancing sexy' meant taking off your clothes while doing dance14 and no one cared what you wore. Everyone looked like shit - but we all thought we looked awesome. Our dances looked like shit but we all thought they were the coolest thing since 90210.

Although the rating system is gone, as well as the parties - those days are not forgotten. Even though the freebies being passed around are the same freebies which made their rounds back in 2005 - noobs are still appreciative. And even though these 'old' dances have lost their top seat in chimeras and dance machines in every club in SL - some of us remember.

Owenimations had created the then cutting-edge of club necessity when the Chimera was released. Finally you could dance in sync with other club goers! Long before the Dance Foo, and not long after dance bracelets-we celebrated our synchronized dancing with MORE dancing. Yes the times have changed.

The way folks flock to Sine Wave Island now days is how we had all once flocked to Owenimation vendors. There were so many dances to choose from! The floor in front of the clicky-wall to demo the dances was always packed with all the girls wearing Washu wigs, the men wearing the same Lost hair (all hair was pretty much either blonde or black - those were your only choices back then) and we thought we were badasses.

Dancing in only the past 3 years has gone from jerky movements where your arms randomly flail about and your joints break to smooth, realistic, almost artistic movements of fluidity. There is more to gain from those 'old' dances than mere nostalgia though, my friends. Oh yes! If you don't have at least 4 of these dances somewhere in your inventory then you're probably an alt - funded by your better known, richer self.

Once a means of entertainment, now some sort of 'chic' thing ... dancing is one thing that will evolve for the better in SL. Fashion may bomb into nothing but tank tops, blue jeans and neko ears - but dancing has and always will be an art of self expression that will never go out of style. I still say that Dance14 is the ONLY dance that can be recognized (by resident majority) in a snapzilla snapshot NO MATTER where the snap was taken during the animation loop.

Not so Stellar Shorts

I have to admit I do love new stuff from Stellar even if it is just the same skirts retextured with diff tops. I was so excited to see that Lexi Morgan of Stellar Designs had made some frayed jean shorts. I mean my ND ones are so very old & worn out now that I'm surprised there's any material left to them after years of wear. Then of course there was that time with the gearshift knob accident. Sigh. Anywho... I went straight to Stellar all excited like after seeing the ad on bloglines.

First of all designers, please kindly display your *new* stuff in the front of your stores. It's very convenient for us crazy mad shopaholics. Theres nothing I hate more than thongs on men, than searching for new shit. It'll piss me off & I will im you, then you will either A. get frustrated with me or B. laugh at me. Either way, it puts a damper on me wanting to go back. It's so aggravating to swim thru a sea of old shit looking for new shit.

Anywho... I bought three pair and what I got wasn't exactly what I had hoped for. Though they look ab-fab in her ad pic, what she failed to snap was the shorts in motion with diff people's AOs. Oh yes... I present Exhibits A, B & C.

These are SD Denim Cutoffs - Dark Wash, SD Frayed Short Shorts 5, SD Frayed Short Shorts 6 in no particular order because well, that was too much like work. So anyways heres what I have... what appears to be a misplaced maxi pad sliding down my inner thigh, an entire triangle shaped mystery of missing material in middle pic, over creaminess mayhaps on the inner thigh again in last pic. I suppose if I were a good cowgirl, I'd be keeping my calves together and no one would notice but thats not how my AO rolls. So yah theres that, and the fact that I'm not a cowgirl at all. Hm.

The textures are awesome. All nice & denim-y. It's gotta be a bitch to make short shorts, because so often the insides of the thighs are so eep! I thought these would be different but sigh. *struggles to put back on the ND frayed shorts, sucking it in to button them*
