Evolution's good. Right?

Today CSI moved into SL, and they certainly make waves. Company CBS (who are of course with the Electric sheep) have bought 440 sims to take the flood of new residents after CSI:NY airs in the states using second life as a plot. Quick side note, I dunno what version of SL they were playing but I ain't seen shit in this place that looks like what they had, and the Venus chick being uber popular? Loitering around some sort of gorean sim, puhlease. Kudos though to ETD and Canimal for getting a forty minute advert.

But I digress, this is all a far cry from the early days of the glorified chat room. My first knowledge of SL came from a four page article in a uk computer magazine, which told of the parties and chatting to be had. Mentions of an in game currency all seemed very cool, a way to finance yourself in the virtual world. I was hooked, Three months later when I got my shiny new PC with broadband I signed up. It was, it has to be said, a simpler time. There were clubs, and shops, the events listing for one day fairly filled a page, and loads of people went to them. My friend was a budding land baron (he actually made the old land holdings top ten list) and once told me in amazement that he was close to owning half a sim of land.

Two years on and Anshe Chung owns half of SL, people approach SL to make money. I get notecards from people who have been in game for 3 weeks, telling me about their business ventures, about the services they wish to provide. Everyone and their mother has a sim (including me YAY!) and the amount of shops makes my head hurt.

But is this evolution a good thing. I set out to find some random people to have a laugh with, so I hit the events. After trawling though the 10 billion yard sales and free sex/lindens adverts I found.. Squat. So I thought I'd hit a few clubs. Every single one was the same. Empty apart from zombified campers. I gave up after the vivid textures began to melt my contacts. In deperation I decided to hit a strip club. Same deal, one guy (who you just know was itching to put on a freebie cock) four or five slider issued blingtards with numbers in their names and a grasp of the english language that my three year old would have sneered at. Oh and gestures..

Bottom line, unless you've got a clique, then you have to stick some disturbing looking sparkles in your eyes (Ewwwwwwwwwww!) and get down with the fucktards.

It's not just the social scene. The tech spec is sneaking the bar up too. My old pooter would play SL quite happily, but with each and every update the poor thing spent more time groaning. My new pooter is happy enough now but for how long, and who is getting left behind?

So yeah, evolve, it's good, 440 CSI islands was a great enhancement to the grid I'm sure. But please, don't forget your roots.

Introducing...

Me!

I didn't have a fookin clue what to write by way of an introduction, whether to spiel it out into a proper formal thing, offer up a few choice words of abuse, or to merely shove in an article/post and pretend I'd been here for ages.

I asked a few friends for their opinion, suggested options included

"Hi, I'm Kitty and I'm a complete bitch"
Small Autobiography (bleaugh)
Random rambling bullshit story about things I do in SL
My CV (or resume if you prefer).

All sound suggestions but I thought I'd do it my way by telling you what you need to know.

I'm not a bitch but don't push too hard, I'm a helpless people pleaser most of the time. I do think my shit is the bollocks but I will pretend it isn't for the sake of appearances. I am an attention whore. I don't say LOL. Say what you will about me but don't piss on my friends or my fireworks. I'm boring 95% of the time. I'm as filthy as my magazine (and then some). I won't take it personally and I do swallow.

Anything else?

Anyhoo, hugs and stuff *giggles*

Meat 'N Greet: Broken Xeno

*Favorite Color:
Violet
*SL Rezzday:
I forget, this isn't my original account. It's been almost two years.
*Favorite animal and why?
Hmm, I guess honestly if I had to pick, it'd be my dog, Koah. She's a beagle. Why? Because she's totally awesome, and will lick the shit out of your face.
*What factors did you take into consideration when creating your av?
Realism. That's a big one. There are tons of oversized and overmuscled avatars running around SL and they look ridiculous and comical. Intensity, I suppose would be another thing. I want my avatar to look unique, and alive, but not like I do in real life. I want to stand out in a crowd, I suppose.
*what's the most embarrassing thing you've done for a girl/guy/furry?
Uhhh... I plead the fifth? >.>
*What's the last book you read?
I recently re-read Enders Game. I hadn't read it since high school, and I wanted to see if it was as good as I remembered. It was still pretty good.
*What's a movie you could watch over and over?
Donnie Darko, that movie is fun, a real mind trip.
*You could never date someone...
who lies. I can't stand it, it's a huge pet peeve. Either that, or someone who smells like ass, and not in the good way.
*If you could trade slives with one other avatar for a day, who would it be?
I guess if I had to pick someone... I don't know. I don't know that I would, but maybe with someone who owned a really cool store, selling hair and clothing and accessories. Maybe the guy who made Sinistyle, or FORM.
*Who would you most like to collaborate with in sl?
I already collaborate with her :P Mia Olivier is a person who keeps me on my creative toes all the time, and she does amazing photographic work. She really makes my avatar look amazing.
*Favorite thing to do in SL?
Change my look, I suppose. I'm constantly doing that, constantly changing my skin, my outfit, my hair, my avatar. I can go from wearing jeans and a t-shirt to wearing all white with black drow skin and white hair in the span of moments. SL is a great game, and while there are a great many faults with it, I think it's like life. It's what you make of it.

Attention...

You could be the next Mean Girl. After almost a year on the blogsphere we're finally opening up our blog to two more writers. Why, you ask? Well because Laylah hasn't done anything but sit on her ass with a mouth full of bon bons, Orchid has gone AWOL, and does Akasha even play SL anymore?

So if you are interested in being a writer here at MGG2SL you will need to submit a writing sample to JellyBean Madison &/or Rosie Shark covering some topics that you would obviously cover here as a writer. Just a couple rules...

  1. Cannot be an alt - You have to be an established member of SLociety. (i.e people can vouch that they know you or have heard of you).
  2. Must be willing to express your opinion openly, honestly & freely.
  3. Cannot have won any modeling contracts, endorsements, etc. (hahahaha okay I stuck that in on my own)
You can submit your sample via notecard inworld and thanks

BA (Beefcake Anon) Support Group

With our finger continuously on the pulse of the people, we understand that in times of distress and confusion it's hard to know what to do or who to turn to. With this in mind and in lieu of your usual Meat 'N Greet this week, we are offering up the much-needed support to those out there who feel they need to let out their inner angries. (well that and we *really* are tired of searching high and low for a beefworthy blonde to appease all you anti-dark-hair activists).

If finding solace in the company of like-minded individuals such as yourselves is just not enough, we urge you to please send beefworthy suggestions be it blonde or otherwise in world to JellyBean Madison or Rosie Shark. Though this was suggested as a solution to the drought of light-haired Beef specimens, not much work has been done to improve the situation.

This has been a cry for help from your friends at MeanGirls.

Kindly State University - Go Team!

We got bearclaws, yes we do. We got bearclaws... how 'bout you?! Welcome to an inside look at Kindly State University.
...Kindly State University is a college themed roleplay, set in The North West United States. KSU is the all grown up big sister of KHS. (If you were born after KHS, or didn't know about it you missed out on a great time!) After much thought, deliberation, and the constant nagging of those very fond of KHS, we decided to bring it back, just updated.

Created and developed by Redd Columbia and Roberta Beauchamp, KSU is a sprawling campus sim providing almost limitless opportunities to mold a college-themed roleplay environment to your liking. Although still putting the finishing touches on their builds and ideas, both were gracious enough to treat us to a tour... complete with descriptive tales of the origin of the college as well freebies that helped us get into character! It seems they have thought of everything and it's apparent that a lot of discussion and sharing of ideas has helped shape their dreams into a very unique and wonderful opportunity for a lot of people to get more out of their game.

I liked the idea of this RP before I got a looksee at all they've created, but now I'm determined to get in and will be in line to get a room in Red Hall to share with Jell (if she doesn't ditch me for the coed Green Hall with Hawks :P) Ohhhh wait, haha you can't share a room with a boy! And no boys in your room between midnight and 6am! Too bad for you!
We are trying to stay as close to a REAL college as possible, including campus police, tuition (for a small fee and LOADS of awesome freebies), Greek Houses and rush, sports facilities, live concerts and financial aid for those who qualify. We are always open to new ideas and suggestions.
Of course you can choose to be out of character (OOC) while at Kindly State, although I don't know why you would. Rules have been put in place to try to preserve the realism created for this rp. Sorry, furries! My first thought is to RP this as a student, but there are so many ways you could play this. What kind of student are you? What's your major? Will you pledge a sorority or fraternity? I recommend steering clear of Kappa Omega Zomma. However if your rp fantasy is to be a maid, this might be the place for you. There are so many ways to find your place here. Some will choose to teach, or enforce rules, be an RA, head up the award-winning cheer program, or even be Darnell - the Kodiak bear mascot (only thing close to furry allowed :P)

I have to say the whole thing is very exciting and I look forward to seeing how it turns out. Such care and detail has been put into it and there is just so much you could sink your teeth into and make it your own experience. From the huge Samuel Lee Sports and Events Center that will be home to live performances as well as school functions and events, to the KSU Creative Learning Facility with it's Award Winning Nationally Famous KSU Dinner Theater, to the choices of housing if you choose to live on campus. Other features of KSU include:
  • Fitness Center offering weight lifting, yoga, and treadmills
  • Nicolo's Wood Fired Pizza Parlor (be a waitress! or a pizza chef!)
  • The Beach at Lake More Superior -- a tiny little oasis featuring a cave for... uhh... it's your dream! act accordingly!
  • Freebies and fun stuff!
- Rosie

A potential student reviews her options...

So I didn't quite manage to graduate from KHS, but yay me, I got my GED. I'm an excited future KSU Kodiak! Yup, I'm heading off to the University this semester, if I'm accepted that is.

It's funny how the years of high school seem to drag by, then suddenly commencement shows up, and you begin to consider that time travel might not be so impossible. Next, you figure that the summer is, what, three months? That's awhile before school starts again... wrong.

The KSU tour ROCKED! I can't decide which of the many facilities I liked the most, but the Art classroom & the Creative Learning facility were definitely high on the list. I'm thinking I definitely wanna be a drama major. :D I have big hopes & dreams of becoming a famous SLactress that also writes, produces, directs & stars in her own films kind of like Kevin Smith & Quentin Tarantino. Who knows, I may get my start at KSU.

During last night's tour you could just feel the breeze whip around you as the autumn leaves fell softly on the ground. This is my school. We were able to check out the sweet, yet snobby Sorority house. I'm not quite sure if that's for me. I think I'll look more into the dorms offered & see if any that fit me better pop up on campus. Delta Zomma Omega Sorority might just be too cutesy for me. Omg! Cute might actually be a factor for getting in after seeing pics of the current roomies there. To afford tuition, my dorm room, school supplies, & other necessities, I will definitely have to keep my part-time DJ'n job at Clockwork.

Well that's it... I'm ready to pack my entire slife into a few suitcases & go. KSU here I come!

-Jelly

Meat 'N Greet: Elexor Matador

*Favorite Color:
Blue. A nice deep dark blue. Very relaxing color.
*SL Rezzday:
March 17, 2005
*Favorite animal and why?
A simple dog. Why? They are loyal, they don't have an attitude, and they always will be by your side. Plus, they make me laugh every day. You have to love that. :)
*What factors did you take into consideration when creating your av?
I made my own shape, so I wanted to be somewhat unique, and have some style. Who am I kidding? I just made it up on the fly. I have only done one thing since creating the shape, and that was dropping the buldging muscles. As cool as that was in the club world....it really did look stupid.
*Who is your SLelebrity crush?
Amelia Abernathy. :) She's a celebrity to me. :)
*what's the most embarrassing thing you've done for a girl/guy/furry?
Hmmm...Let me get back to you on this one...Alright. The most embarrassing thing I've done for a girl is to give her everything I have only to be realized it was all for naught. Granted, not as embarrassing as one might want, but it's equally disheartening. Embarrassing thing I've done for a guy? I was banned from a parcel party I was at because I wore chaps without pants. Not really embarrassing for me, apparently for him, it was. For a furry? I don't know any, sorry.
*What's the last book you read?
"The Leadership Challenge" by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner
*What's a movie you could watch over and over?
Just one? Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Office Space, Terminator, Jerry Maguire
*You could never date someone who _____________ (fill in the blank)
..was unintelligent. Sorry, I like brains over beauty. You may be hot, but if you can't stimulate my mind, well....
*If you could trade slives with one other avatar for a day, who would it be?
Dirk Talamasca. He knows everyone, and gets all the women. hehe
*Who would you most like to collaborate with in sl?
I've collaborated with a few, and there's some actually in line, but I enjoy collaborating with clothing designers. Any group that doesn't do drama is fine by me.
*Favorite thing to do in SL?
Spending time with Amelia is tops on this list...followed by making a killer jewelry set. :)

Truth in Hair

Don't worry we're not trying to become fashion bloggers by this post. Sometimes we just feel the need to blog stuff that has to do with a new release in the fashion world. Okay, it more or less has to do with us receiving free shit from the fashion world. Guess who received free shit? *grins*

Mr. Anti-Fashion Fashion Designer has decided to dabble in hair. For those of you familiar with Heroes, Truth is like Peter Petrelli. He absorbs powers of those around him. The man is like a sponge. He's dabbled in machinima, couture, skin, and now hair. Depending on who he is currently attached to, you might find his inspiration range from a sudden need to include more pink in his offerings *winks*, to launches of skin and now stretching to hair. SL clearly became "as shallow as a spring sun shower puddle" when he decided to jump into the communal pool known as hair design. Truth Hair is an exciting new release of well done, subtle, and charming styles. The textures are the staple of colors, guaranteed to fit most requirements, but sadly offering no real deviation from the norm. I asked him not to make pink. Haha! I know, that's awful coming from me, but I prefer blonde with red tips to add my pink to. I, for one, look to textures to offer a broader variety such as darkened ends, or more eclectic coloring. This is me wearing Sunday in blonde, pinked, of course ("self photo taking pixelated lovin thy self" )... loving the lil wispy flexi ends that flutter around my neck. However it is just the launch of Truth Hair, and with the beginning of this new enterprise, I think the textures offered are adequate leaving room for him to grow as a hair designer.

Does anyone else find it ironic that mister throw fashion in your face decided to lower himself to the level of offering review copies? Is he staying True to himself and his viewpoints by offering them up only to the fringe elements... such as ourselves? Could this ::gasp:: mean he cares what we think? Oh no, you mean it might matter that others like his work? Ya think? Sure, being an artist is a great thing. Caring only about what *you* think about your craft... kinda counterproductive to trying to be successful in business. Truth has portrayed himself to be the darling prima donna badboy of the fashion world. Demanding only evian in his trailer, and trashing hotel rooms gridwide. And yet, I'll allow it :P Truth shows the same precision and focus on details and the finished product that he always does. Talented, yes. Cuddly and friendly, notsomuch.

Hey, I'm easy. I don't have to like his politics in order to wear his hair. :p You can find the new hair at *TRUTH* or read his blog at Truth Designs.
