The Internet Is For Porn!

A European parent-teacher group called Familles de France is apparently suing Linden Lab to prevent minors from signing up for Second Life, saying the grid contains “pornographic photos and videos in free access [where] users can mimick sexual acts, going as far as rape scenes, bondage, zoophilia and scatophilia,” according to a report on GamePolitics.com. A court hearing is set for June 18, the site states. -PixelPulse Magazine

Who here doesn't know what the internet is for? (PORN) It's called the naked lady machine for a reason. Freedom of speech, digital and otherwise, has led to the internet being full of things no child should see. Net Nanny and other content watch programs have been created to try and curb their wandering little fingers.. but it can only do so much.

So – what do we do? Blame companies and games tailored to adults that have big signs saying “18+”? Sure.. and we sue them.. because we are too god damned lazy to watch our children.

This is a CLIENT SIDE problem... Meaning the problem is YOU, not the computer or the games industry. You people buy your kids R rated games full of violence and gore and turn your head away – what's it's only a game! But, by god, let some whore show her snatch and you're all up on that.

This problem of 'unwanted' porn can be solved very easily and in one step.

Here it comes...

MONITOR YOUR CHILDREN AND STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE FOR YOU BEING A BAD PARENT!

Ever wonder why there are so many online predators? It's because the internet is a harvesting ground of children who aren't being watched. Little girls thinking and acting like adults – wanting the attention of older men. It's disgustingly common-place nowadays. If they don't find them online they'll find them elsewhere. You need to monitor your children ALL the time. No ifs, ands, or buts. No fucking excuses.

Who cares if you aren't the popular parent – at least when Chester the Child Rapist goes on a diddling-spree and kills off his toys you'll still BE a parent. Your kid will have been safely somewhere parent-approved and monitored by a trusted adult.

You're not there to be their friend – that comes later in life once they have grown up and moved out. While they are under your roof they are YOUR responsibility and whatever happens to them is YOUR fault if you don't watch them.

Yeah, ok, so it's a bit of a hassle to watch them – there are a million things you need to be doing like washing dishes, doing laundry, cooking dinner, making more babies so you can fatten your welfare check. So fucking what – You breed it, you take responsibility for it. Not enough time in the day, you say, for keeping an eye on your children? Well then, STOP BREEDING. There are plenty of contraceptives available today to curb this nasty little habit of yours; birth control pills, condoms, Depo, IUDs.. and plain ol' not fucking (I know, how horrible!) Can't keep your legs closed and refuse to use anything else? Well hop on by the Dr's and have him do us all a favor by sterilizing you.

Stop blaming everyone else for what you're too lazy to do. Stop expecting companies to take care of your crotch-droppings.

Agree or not – you've got to see the sue-happy trend that has been gaining in popularity for years. People, it has GOT to stop. You don't want this shit in your living room then turn off the computer, unplug it, and ship it back. No one is forcing you to be on the internet. Want it simply for educational purposes? Then make sure your children are receiving an education YOU approve of.

No flames here. Well, at least not that sort. ;-)

And it's not just the welfare moms who aren't watching their kids, the middle class and rich ones aren't watching theirs either. I see it all the time. "What? My little Annie? She's a smart girl. She wouldn't do anything dumb." "Who? Johnny? He's not interested in things like that. And he knows he's not allowed."

You are absolutely right: It's a client side problem. Watch your damn kids and hands off my civil liberties!

p.s. did you get a wagon yet?

I really didn't mean it just toward welfare mothers - it was a general stab at bad mothers/parents as a whole.

I think that trust is to be expected in a parent/child relationship but don't mistake trust for blind ignorance and apathy... and don't give it until it is earned AND maintained.

No. No wagon. *sobs*

NOTE: Not all people on welfare are bad parents. My mother was on welfare when I was a baby because she needed the help. She also worked two jobs and went to school at night to be an RN. It is only a bad then when people abuse it.. and a great many people do.

AMEN......I am so impressed with this post, good for you Laylah , I remember way back when all the buzz was about south park here (i know a century ago ) but remember turning it on one day and going WTF why the hell are kids watching this ,its a funny show dont get me wrong but its what led me to think about the fact that too many kids have their own mini entertainment centres in their bedrooms , they can listen and watch and do whatever they damm well like and no one is keeping tabs , locking devices dont work because oh no thats too annoying when something is blocked they actualy need for school and the parent gets the shits having to unlock it all the time so just leaves it off BAH , and all of these kids are using chat programs to 'communicate with their friends is all ' BULLSHIT kids are too damm curious as to what might be behind door number 3 and that leads to a world of chat rooms and potential trouble, in yahoo days i was in a room and a kid came in and said he was 14 I got in his box and said get your ass out of here , his reply was many woman send him naked pics and have sex with him and wasnt it better than getting some girl pregnant RL ...a 14 year old kid shouldnt be thinking of alternatives that is just WRONG , by the time I had finished terrorising him with threats of not only himself getting prosecuted but his parents and all sorts of stuff , the best thing I have ever been told in chat to this day and what still makes me proud as hell was when he finished the 30 minute argument by saying 'Im going now you killed my hardon "

Laylah you are so right this has to begin with and end with the parents, no one is responisble for raising your children but you, and as for suing them well that is all going to hell and that has been proved so often with lies that also get told by the media about what actualy takes place in most chat , yes porn happens yes their are absolute scum of the earth predators out there , but they are thank god a minority and so many more concerned people suffer at the hands of these "Lazy Parents ' ...get the computers out of the bedrooms and into the open living areas I dont give a rats ass if you fall over a cord or ten , or it interferes with your own entertainment , nothing will be entertaining in your future or your childs if they are the victims of predators , those things are with people for life and effect the next generations in a household :o(

Ever seen the movie Hard Candy? There's a dialog in there that made me scream "Fuck yeah!" at the tv. (Granted, I screamed that more than once while watching that movie.) Anyway...

Jeff Kohlver: You were coming on to me!
Hayley Stark: Oh, come on. That's what they always say, Jeff.
Jeff Kohlver: Who?
Hayley Stark: Who? The pedophiles! 'Oh, she was so sexy. She was asking for it.' 'She was only technically a girl, she acted like a woman.' It's just so easy to blame a kid, isn't it! Just because a girl knows how to imitate a woman, does NOT mean she's ready to do what a woman does.
[pause]
Hayley Stark: I mean, you're the grown up here. If a kid is experimenting and says something flirtatious, you ignore it, you don't encourage it. If a kid says 'Heeey, let's make screwdrivers' you take the alcohol away and you don't race them to the next drink!

Seriously - if you havn't seen this movie - See it. It was one of the best I've ever watched.

Good job cockblocking that kid - he should NOT have been there and women should deffinately not been messing with him. We tend to favor the girls in situations like this - wanting to protect them more.. but the fact is ALL children should be protected ALL the time. A sexual crime against a child is an awful, nasty thing - no matter the sex of either party.

I SO AGREE. I say that all the time! People, take care and responsbility of your own kids! Get involved in their lives and don't expect other people to raise them for you. For gods' sakes. How many parents know what their kids are doing, right now?? How many care?? You bet your ass I will be all over my children (once I have them). My husband is a teacher and you would NOT believe the stuff he's expected to put up with from them because their parents didn't take a paddle to their little spawn's behind every once in a while.

And let's not even go into the "morals and religion should be taught at HOME, not school" issue.

Sorry, I feel very strongly about this issue and totally agree with you. :D

i agree also, if people are gonna make children they need to watch them and educate them, not let them "experience" while they are young. experience is all good and all but they need limits and guidance.

parents need to get their shit together and do their job, my parents made it clear they werent my friends, that their job was to teach me what i needed to not end up a prostitute or dead.

they also made it clear to me that if i disobeyed their effort to guide and teach me, there would be consequences.

thats a real parents job, not give their child all they want.

Okay, now I so want to make the babies with Laylah. ;-)

This post needs to be photocopied and handed out to parents at each and every childbirth.

I mean, sheesh, just because the technology exists and is more affordable these days, doesn't mean kids should have free access to it. Parents who allow televisions and computers in their children's bedrooms without the ability to monitor or supervise those activities and then complain about the content really piss me off and they should not be allowed to breed.

I never really considered myself old, but sheesh, the noticeable lack of discipline so many parents are displaying these days differs dramatically than in my youth. What's up with that?

Great post, Laylah, applicable to SL and beyond. :-)

Speaking as a parent myself, I wholeheartedly agree with what you're saying in some respects...

A/ YES - parents are responsible for making sure THEIR children aren't subjected to unsuitable internet content.
B/ The companies displaying said unsuitable content should NOT be held responsible for children viewing it.

However, I have to say that the way you delivered the message was in my view (though relevant to this particular blog) not as diplomatic as it should have been. This is a sensitive subject, and you also need to consider that as parents, we can't physically watch our children 100% of the time, no matter how much we care. Children don't just use the internet at home, they use it at school, at internet cafes, at their friends house... To suggest that any child that is abused/raped/murdered by an internet pervert is the parents fault is frankly taking the argument a step too far.

All that said, this is an old argument that has been brewing for many years, it was the same when porn was first released on video and in magazines, same with horror movies, our parents tried in vain to stop us from watching/seeing these, but I bet they didn't succeed in the majority of cases... I'll bet most of us here watched horror movies before we were 18, and ditto for porn videos and magazines...

The fact is, if a kid wants to see something, he/she will, no matter what efforts or extremes parents go to to shield their kids from it, if they want to see it, they will, unless the people making this adult content make some steps towards verifying age.
The best we can do as parents, is monitor our children's internet access and warn them of the dangers accordingly.
